Show Us Your Debts

Although we're a day late, Hope n' Change wants to wish everyone a happy Fat Tuesday - because if Barack Obama is reelected, there are reports that Michelle will officially make it "Low-Fat Tuesday" next year. And while reflecting on the wild craziness of Mardi Gras, we couldn't help but think how many parallels there are to our nation's current political climate...

The Democrats and Republicans are certainly "big parties," and people are being encouraged to fill the streets by Occupy Anyplace With Food, Sex, Music & Drugs.

Indiscriminate sex is pretty much the president's current campaign platform ("Yes You Can!"), and "beads for boobs" might as well be the new hashtag for Obama's "What would you do with $40" vote-buying scheme.

And there's also overlap when it comes to "hurricanes"- although one is a rum-based drink created in New Orleans, and the other was a natural disaster allegedly created by George W. Bush to destroy New Orleans...shortly before he holed up in the Oval Office so he could continue hurting the economy during Obama's first term.

Frankly, Hope n' Change doesn't mind the short term craziness and excesses of Mardi Gras, but four years of craziness and excesses from the current president is waaaaaaay too much.

Which is why, as is the case with any really spectacular hangover following a wild bender, we're hoping the American public will finally say "never again."

Stilton,

I'm glad you are keeping "abreast" of things, and going tit for tat with the Partier in Chief. Let's hope that November 6, 2012 is Slim Tuesday. Like BO'chances of re-election are slim to none.

Once the Supreme Court rules on the limits (or lack thereof) of the "commerce clause", future presidents will be able to outlaw Mardi Gras as having a negative effect on interstate commerce. All those boobs are quite distracting.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Colby- I'm glad you were able to get all that off your chest.

@John the Econ- I doubt that even Obama would want to outlaw Mardi Gras; his preference will be to find a way to tax it.

One other thing that Mardi Gras and elections seem to share is that they are favorite events for pickpockets, although on two entirely different scales of theft.
For a Mardi Gras picture, that image of the sleeper-in-chief is one of the funniest in recent mammary!

@Stilton, the argument I think we should be perusing is the idea that once the state gets to power to regulate literally anything conceivably linked to "interstate commerce", that some future out-of-control right-wing caliphate will wield the same power as Obama would like to exercise today. You'd think that would make libertine leftists think twice about granting the state such powers.

Personally, I think the populace of New Orleans should have been relocated and the city left to rot and be reclaimed by the Gulf. But I guess it was just "too big to fail" even when Mother Nature wanted it to, or...the denizens of D.C. didn't want their town to be the only godless, festering rat-hole left in the US.

@John the Econ,
The leftists intend that they and only they will ever have the power to run the country. They assume that the right will never have the power they are trying to usurp for themselves. Somehow, they can't see that their little Camelot will crumble just like the former USSR, and probably more quickly.

Stilton,
I'm glad you posted this today. It reminded me that Mrs. Colby wants me to put new knockers our doors.

C'mon Slim Tuesday! I'm ready for President Newt Paul Mitt-torum!

@A Nonny Mouse- You're definitely right about the whole pickpocket thing. And I think Barry looks pretty good in the green, feathery outfit. This is probably how Barney Frank imagines him when he's...uh...never mind.

@John the Econ- As you clearly know, if the Obamites get their "interstate commerce" regulation (per Obamacare) passed, there will be no limit to governmental power over our lives. None. And you're right, you'd think the Left would worry about that power going into the hands of their political enemies...IF they didn't think they've already put enough voters on the dole to assure a permanent state of Liberal sovereignity.

@My Dog Brewski- Hey, you're talking about Chocolate City (as Ray Nagin called it)! And frankly, I've wondered why efforts weren't made to basically rebuild New Orleans someplace that isn't below sea level. Especially when all of the global warming (oops, "climate change") enthusiasts say we're in for more and worse hurricanes.

@JustaJeepGuy- You're right. The Leftists lack that whole "vision" thing.

@Pete(Detroit)- True fact: my dog is named Maggie in honor of the wonderful Ms. Thatcher.

@Colby- Your post brings back pleasant memories of Young Frankenstein.

@SJ - And *I've* been wondering why efforts weren't made to put N'awlins a lot *further* below sea level.
On the other hand, I suppose it's kinda like burying some rotting timber at the far end of your property, in the hope that the termites will go there instead of into your house.

Ahhhh....! Young Frankenstein. The SECOND best movie of all time (right behind Blazing Saddles).

Getting ready to go watch the final GOP debate. Too bad all four of these guys can't run against that anti-American, pot smoking, cocaine snorting, enemy-ass-kissing, cheeseburger eating, girlyman with breasts, socialist bastard.

Stilton Jarlsberg said...

@Emmentaler- I'll confess my ignorance about what a paczki was; I had to Google it. And now I really, really want one.

@Pryorguy- She was a pip, and I've refused to see the Meryl Streep biopic because it's my understanding that the film focuses more on her Alzheimer's than her leadership. Plus, I read a quote from Streep saying that while she admired Maggie's strength, she didn't agree with her politics. So I'm skipping the movie (and wishing we had politicians of Thatcher's stripe again).

@Coon Tasty- Jim Hlavac (who posts here regularly) is looking for a house in New Orleans, and I've encouraged him to find one with pontoons. I still think it's a pretty good idea!

@Colby- I just watched the debate, and am glad to report that I thought all four candidates did quite well. We can't know if they'll do the right things if elected, but they were sure saying the right things tonight.

@Emmentaler (paczki )- Hells YES you do! A jelly (or custard) stuffed potato doughnut fried in lard? Do NOT even THINK about it! Just Buy One (or six, or a dozen). Done wrong, they can be grim. Done properly, effing BRILLIANT, man! I had one last year stuffed w/ black raspberry jam. A-ma-ZING, to be true...

@Pryorguy - (Thatcher movie) yeah, NO, I've heard the movie was a total diss on Ms. T - skip is good plan

@Coon T - Personally, seemed to me that after 300 years of 'spring break' God (or other Powers That Be) decided that Nawlins needed a frikkin' BATH. Can't disagree. Now, just WHY there are folks trying to sue FEMA for "long term exposure" issues from 'short term shelter trailers' is just BEYOND me...

@Colby (debate) Thought Newt did well, the other two tied for third, and RP totally sucked the hind teste (despite getting it right w/ the constitution a time or two). That said, I'll vote for ABO (holding nose, if necessary) as ANY of those d-bags is so TOTALLY LESS of a d-bag than the d-bag in chief...
GAWD I miss Herman Cain....

@Pete - Detroit

You should see what Encyclopedia Dramatica has to say about Nawlins. And then Detroit...

@CT: Shoooot! NO vs the Big D? Detroit just masks Dearbornistan. Imagine the attention that caliphate would be getting if Detroit wasn't such an attractive cesspool for the media flies to buzz over. Oh, wait - Maybe not. I forgot that the Mooslum-In-Chief would probably pull the yoke up on any media plane that attempted a strafing run on his favorite "religion-of-peace". Personally, I see it as the "religion-of-pieces-of-human-splattered-indiscriminately-across-the-landscape", but that's just my perception.

@Stilton: Ah, Paczki (pronounced poon-shkee for you great unwashed) is the de-facto pre-lenten indulgence around the Limburger household, and has been for as long as I can remember. Shoot! I'm not even Polish! But the cholesterol running through my veins is...

Was reading through Drudge last nigh, re: the debate, and most comments appeared to be negative regarding the whole lot of them, including a lot of booing. All I can say is the ONLY robocalls I have received on the Repubican (ala Levin) Primary were from the Romney camp - several a day - universally trashing Santorum. Often, it seemed that they hung up just to redial as the very next call was YARTF (Yet Another Romney Trash Filler). We absolutely DESPISE robo calls and their perpetrators in the Limburger household, and all the Romnorrhoid managed to achieve through this strategy is to cement my and my wife's primary votes for Santorum. Shoot! If Santorum worries the establishment RINO-designate to that extent, he deserves a second look. (Sorry, Newt - I like your train of thought, but your track record says it sometimes comes off the track and runs through nearby neighborhoods. Ron? Love the message. Unfortunately, your foreign policy is just wrapping your message around a letter-bomb. Rick Perry? Is Rick Perry still in the race? Though he'd dropped out...)

Pete(Detroit) said...

Emmentaller, that wacky unpredictability is part of what I LIKE about Newt.
And agreed, the robocalls have been highly annoying. Funny how the pols excepted themselves, specifically, from the 'do not call' legislation.

@Coon Tasty- I'll have to look up those entries.

@Emmentaler- "Dearbornistan" sounds about right these days, unfortunately. Meanwhile, not too many demon dialer calls coming into the Jarlsberg household because no date has been determined for primaries in Texas (our redistricting is tied up in the courts to make sure that the lines are drawn to protect "minority representation," because as we all know, you can ONLY be represented by someone of your own race.)

@Pete(Detroit)- I don't know whatever happened to "do not call," but it seems like most of the calls I get these days are salesmen. I just let the machine handle it.

@Stan da Man- I've seen that video before, but darned if I didn't watch the whole thing again. I guess I just have a weakness for appliance commercials.

@JustaJeepGuy said "...They assume that the right will never have the power they are trying to usurp for themselves."

Exactly. That is why I think it's important to make them clearly understand the dangers of what they seek. I'm thinking out-there ideas like the forced abortions of "undesirables" as Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger would have liked. How about outlawing sex outside of marriage? Both would be rational & logical in a state that needed to engineer order and control costs...

Emmentaler Limburger said...

@John: Of course the irony that ...out-there ideas like the forced abortions of "undesirables" as Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger would have liked is precisely what the left advocates is not lost on us...
